Copper Leaf and Raw Garnet Earrings
The leaves are falling! These earrings are made by taking two small sheets of copper, sandwiching a real oak leaf (that I collected from my front yard) in between, and pressing it through a rolling mill. What emerges is the perfect image of the leaf, mirrored on each piece of copper. The excess copper is cut from around the impression, leaving what looks like a real leaf. A black patina is applied to bring out the veins of the leaf, and it is gently shaped. Mounted on each leaf, sitting inside a sterling silver flower cup, is a raw uncut garnet. The overall effect is quite lovely, a bit rustic, and very organic.
